FREE homeopathic medicines at next meeting!

Thanks to the Boiron company, Elizabeth and I will have full-size homeopathic medicines for moms to take home at our next meeting. Oscillococcinum is for flu-like symptoms for children ages 2 and older and Chestal Honey is a homeopathic cough syrup. Included with your full-size samples is a flyer with coupons for future purchases. If you'd like a sample and are unable to attend Monday's picnic, please call or e-mail one of us to get yours. The only thing we ask is that if you use these products before December, let us know how they worked for your family.

Fun at the Cricket Hollow Zoo

Three families attended our field trip day at the Cricket Hollow Zoo in Manchester. Pam Sellner was kind enough to give us a tour and the children enjoyed seeing and feeding the animals. They especially enjoyed holding the bunnies.
Don't forget~ Our next meeting is Monday, October 11th at the Conrad Park in Earlville. We will meet at noon with sack lunches and enjoy a craft activity with Lydia Meiner.

Jewelry craft class

We have some crafty homeschooling girls in our midst who are willing to teach some of our younger girls (or boys!) how to make a necklace. Lydia Meiner of Manchester will be at the Earlville Conrad Park on Monday, October 11th to show any interested young crafters the basics of making a necklace using bottle caps.  If you haven't seen this type of necklace, my daughters pointed out similar ones that retail for $5.95 for the necklace alone and another $5.95 just for the "bottlecap" that attaches to it at the Justice store in Cedar Rapids.
Please bring $1.50 per child to help Lydia cover the costs of the craft materials.

We will meet at the park at noon with our sack lunches with a craft time following the lunch.

We plan on at least one more park day, depending upon the weather, and that will be October 25th at noon.

Plans are in the works for some colder weather activities including a field trip to the Imaginarium in Waterloo.

We are open to any ideas or suggestions for other field trips.
Perhaps even a bake sale at Walmart to help cover the costs of some field trips?

Please contact Mary at  kenyonbook@yahoo.com or 563-927-3999 or Elizabeth at 563-927-2907 for questions or comments.

Introduction to our group

We are a fledgling homeschool support group in the Delaware County area of Iowa. Formed by long-time homeschooler, Mary Potter Kenyon and her second generation homeschooling daughter, Elizabeth Flesher, both of Manchester, Iowa, this group is open to all homeschoolers or anyone interested in the homeschool lifestyle, who live in the area, regardless of their religious affiliation or educational methods. Our goal is to provide support for the families who have chosen to homeschool, and to organize and implement activities and field trips for our children. We are currently meeting every other Monday at noon in the Conrad Park in Earlville, Iowa for a sack lunch and park play. Next park day is scheduled for September 27th at noon. Conrad Park is on the corner of 3rd and Park street in the middle of Earlville.

We are tentatively planning a field trip to the Cricket Hollow Zoo in Manchester on Wednesday, October 6th. Cost is $2 per person, which is a good discount from their regular admission price. More information on this field trip will be available later this week.

We have two homeschooled girls who will be conducting a jewelry-making class for any interested children. This class will take place in the meeting room of the Manchester library. Cost for supplies will be approximately $1.50 per child. Information on that class will be available later this month.

For any of you homeschoolers who like garage sales, our leaders are planning their annual fall garage sale Sept. 23-25th, Thurs. 11-6, Fri. 8-5, and Saturday 8-noon, at 816 East Butler St., Manchester, Iowa. There will be quality children's clothing including some winter coats, lots of new health and beauty items, over 700 books, toys, a brand new 3-room tent, DVD's, and much more.

If you would like to post your own announcements, items for sale, or have ideas or comments for Mary or Elizabeth, please post comments below or contact us at  kenyonbook@yahoo.com with "homeschool support group" in the subject line.
